Founded in 2000, Vergély Architectes is an agency working in urban, rural and heritage settings by cultivating diversity of scale. Our developments are always anchored in their sites. The existing, whether that be landscape, construction, usage, or atmosphere, is the raw material used for all the agency’s projects. A continuity or coexistence between past and present can be expressed by drawing on memory and the senses.
Economy of means is another constant in the agency’s approach. Prioritising local resources, choosing durable materials, and using them in the right way are the fundamentals of environmental, economic, and social sustainability. To be sustainable, architecture must also anticipate conversions in order to respond to changing forms of occupancy. The spaces designed by Vergély Architectes adhere to this logic by implementing strong principles: simplicity of form, rigorous structural systems, attention to detail, and careful implementation.
Clément Vergély studied under Professor Luigi Snozzi at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. He won the French Ministry for Culture’s prize for young architects, the Nouveaux albums des jeunes architects, in 2004, and was awarded the prestigious French prize for architecture, l’Équerre d’Argent, in 2010. He has been a member of the French Academy for Architecture, l’Académie d’Architecture, since 2017.
The agency regularly collaborates with Charlotte Vergély of CH.V studio on cultural and heritage projects.
