The new Desaix block fits seamlessly into that architectural and engineering heritage, which set a precedent for Lyon’s cityscape. Greater Lyon’s administrative head offices are the best example of this style.
Action Logement’s offices reintroduce this know-how with a typology that is ‘Brutalist’ both structurally and architecturally. The inter-fenestration grid and glass elements form a thick contrasting outer shell that responds to external conditions with an interplay of light and shade.
The building’s structural framework does not merely provide a technical solution to static limitations, but also makes a full visual contribution to expressing its identity.
